Sodium bicarbonate technical grade (NaHCO₃) is a white crystalline powder or granular solid with over 99% purity, odorless, non-flammable, and slightly salty. It has a bulk density of 0.75-1.15 g/cm³, pH ~8.3 (1% solution), and dissolves well in water (~9-10 g/100 mL at 20°C) but not in alcohol. Stable under normal conditions, it decomposes above 50°C into CO₂, water, and sodium carbonate, reacting with acids to release gas.

Key applications include pH neutralization and buffering in water/wastewater treatment, scrubbing acidic gases (SO₂, HCl) in air pollution control, and CO₂ generation in fire extinguishers for grease/electrical fires.
